According to the lunar calendar, 17 February 2026 marks the beginning of the Year of the Horse, and Müpa Budapest once again hosts its Grand Chinese New Year Concert to celebrate.
This concert series, successfully held worldwide since 1998, aims to bring the richness of over three millennia of Chinese musical tradition closer to audiences. This year conductor leads Wuxi Traditional Chinese Orchestra in famous Chinese pieces
Spring Festival Overture,
Dream of Taihu,and
The Silk Road etc,. Famous Chinese pipa player Zhang Hongyan and erhu player Deng Jiandong also join in.
In Chinese astrology, the Year of the Horse is a time for relaxation and carefree enjoyment. In this spirit, the concert will showcase the full spectrum of Chinese music, from folk melodies and opera adaptations to spectacular percussion performances and exciting fusion works, all performed on unique traditional instruments.
