Selected speech

Hope is good, but reality more difficult. Nowadays we have more symphonic composers, more symphony orchestras, and more skilled symphony performers. Nevertheless, compared with our predecessors of the classical and romantic periods, our time has not seen many symphonic works that can appeal to audiences everywhere, and there are even fewer symphony audiences. There is no denying that symphony as an advanced form of music, is on the decline. At this critical juncture, all forces – symphony artists, orchestras, academies and managers, should join hands, live up to our mission, and change the situation. Let’s make united efforts to create a truly symphonic civilisation and artistic glory of our time.
