Gary Ginstling

Executive Director
Gary Ginstling has an over 15-year career of working for a number of American orchestras, and has a strong track record of increasing ticket sales and fundraising, developing innovative programming and building community ties. Mr. Ginstling joined the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) as its executive director in August 2017. Shortly after Mr. Ginstling’s arrival, the NSO launched the tenure of music director Gianandrea Noseda, who has ushered in a new era of enthusiasm and energetic performances. During his first eighteen months at the NSO, Mr. Ginstling has succeeded in extending Noseda’s contract through 2025, and raising over $10 million to support his work with the orchestra.
Prior to joining the NSO, Mr. Ginstling served for five years as CEO of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra (ISO). Under Mr. Ginstling’s leadership, the ISO’s income from ticket sales grew over 80%, and contributed income grew by 45%. He also served as general manager of The Cleveland Orchestra, director of communications and external affairs of the San Francisco Symphony, and executive director of the Berkeley Symphony in California.
Mr. Ginstling holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University, a Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School, and an MBA from The Anderson School at UCLA. He currently serves on the board of the League of American Orchestras.
