Ivan Caracalla once studied at Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle in London, the United Kingdom. After that, he went to Pepperdine University in the United States for further study and earned a bachelor's degree in theatre directing. He then obtained a master's degree in film, TV and stage production from the University of California, Los Angeles.His breakthrough came as an apprentice with the legendary theatre, film and opera director Maestro Franco Zeffirelli.

Ivan merged his theatre education and firm grasp of oriental cultural heritage, together with the disciplines of western theatre technique and advanced technologies to develop his experiences and forward his knowledge of the craft through the several productions he directed. As the Caracalla Dance Theatre celebrates its 50th anniversary, Ivan's journey was abetted by working closely with his sister choreographer Alissar, to maintain together the cultural message and leading role of the Caracalla Theatre.
