Georg Vierthaler was born in Bavaria in 1957. After gaining his high school diploma and completing military service, Mr. Vierthaler studied economics from 1978-1982. Directly after he worked as Administrative Director at the Münchner Volkstheater before he went to the Landestheater Württemberg-Hohenzollern in Tübingen as Administrative Director in 1992. In 1994, he became Managing Director of the Staatsoper Berlin until 2008 when he changed to the Konzerthaus Berlin in the same position. Since 2004 he has been Managing Director of the Staatsballett Berlin and was appointed General Director of the Stiftung Oper in Berlin in 2013.

Furthermore Mr. Vierthaler holds various honorary posts, including chairman of the regional association of the German Theatrical Association, honorary associate judge at the theatres’ arbitration courts and the state labour court Berlin-Brandenburg, council member of the municipal employees' association Berlin and member of the Arts Council Berlin.
