Artistic Director & Principal Conductor: Ayyub Guliyev

Composer: Fikret Amirov

Program Notes:

The ballet written to the music of the People's Artist of the USSR, winner of the State Prizes of the USSR and Azerbaijan, the outstanding composer Fikret Amirov (1922-1984), is just an attempt to touch the multidimensional, mystical and attractive world named Nizami Ganjavi, to the delightful pearls of his poetic art.

The performance is conceived and implemented on the stage as a choreographic triptych, which reflects the three facets of the biography of the great poet:

The first line: The Poet and the Power;

The second line: The Poet and Love;

The third line: The Poet and the Muse.

The natural and magical world of Nizami's poetry is intertwined here. The "Time stream" reveals the bright legacy of the great master - the "Treasury of secrets" of his work, then comes the "Time of History "(the revived heroes of his poems), then again to become" Eternity " (the immortality of the poet).

On the stage, a white-haired Poet, who has known the joys and sorrows of life, the frailty of the world, the love that inspired him to create the best creations and the magic of the poetic word. Before the eyes of the poet, a string of heroes pass, whom he sang in the famous "Hamse" - "Five", visions of an ancient youth. The dance brings to life the heroes of the immortal poems of Nizami-Leyli and Majnun, Khosrow and Shirin, Bahram and the Seven Beauties, Iskander … His heroes are eternal as long as there is love, devotion, faith on earth, as long as the poetry of the great Nizami lives!

For the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, this performance is of particular value also because the ballet "Nizami" became the composer's "Swan song" (January 1984).

Bowing its head before the genius of Nizami Ganjavi and the memory of Fikret Amirov, the theatre brings this ballet performance to the audience with particular trepidation and excitement.
