Qigang Chen

  Born on 28 August 1951 in Shanghai, China, Qigang Chen is a Chinese composer living in France. He studied music composition at the Central Conservatory of Music.In 1984, he went to France for further studies.

  In 1987, his Voyage d'un rêve and Yuan won international contests for symphony composition in Germany and Italy respectively. In 1993, he won the Prize Villa Medicis Hors les Murs. In 2004, he was Composer-in-Residence at the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg. In 2005, He was awarded the Grand Prix de la Musique Symphonique by SACEM. In June 2007, as Music Director of the Opening Ceremony of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games held in Beijing, he composed You and Me which was the Olympic theme song. In 2013, he was decorated with Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government in recognition of his career achievement and positive role in China-France cultural exchanges.
