From May 18 to June 18, 2023, the Dresden Music Festival is dedicated to the areas of tension in music and society under the motto “BLACK & WHITE”. Director Jan Vogler and his team in Dresden have put together a diverse program of 63 events at 22 venues.

In the 46th year of the festival, special attention is paid to the piano, which is celebrated in all its facets with a focus on "keyboard games" in 18 concerts. The heart of this festival within the festival is the cycle of Beethoven symphonies in Franz Liszt's transcription for piano, interpreted by Louis Lortie and highly talented soloists from his piano class.

From the opening with the Munich Philharmonic and soprano Christiane Karg under the direction of Tugan Sokhiev to the final concert with Wynton Marsalis & Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in the Junge Garde open-air stage, the 2023 Dresden Music Festival is focusing on exciting contrasts between the genres.

Orchestras such as the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini under Omer Meir Wellber, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Daniel Harding, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe under Herbert Blomstedt or the Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest under Hartmut Haenchen promise a splendid festival atmosphere. In addition, there will be a reunion with celebrated soloists such as Anne-Sophie Mutter, Till Brönner, David Garrett, Martin Grubinger, Joyce DiDonato, Hélène Grimaud and Midori. Conductor Tugan Sokhiev, actor Lars Eidinger, pianist Kirill Gerstein, the Insula Orchestra from Paris, violinist Kevin Zhu and New York jazz musician Somi will make their debuts at the Dresden Music Festival in 2023.
